We’re committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all employees feel welcome. To initiate and lead our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) journey at Interwell Health, we elected a DEI Council in the beginning of the year. The Council provides leadership and guidance, helping embed DEI into the fabric of who we are. Their work ensures we celebrate our differences, and that all employees feel they belong and have equal opportunities.
A major milestone in our DEI journey was the launch of our employee resource groups. Our ERGs are voluntary employee-led groups that offer employees an opportunity to connect with colleagues who share a common interest and a safe space to discuss shared experiences.
“As a proudly out gay employee, having a safe space to connect with the people in my community is so important for bringing my full self to work,” shared Jake Lahr, director of corporate strategy. “I've loved the ability to connect with my colleagues, those who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies, on everything from queer history, the meaning of pride month, the challenges our communities face today, and our picks for who is the best Pop Diva of all time.”
In April, we launched ERGs for Black, Latina/Latino, and LGBTQIA+ employees and allies. They’ve already helped foster a more inclusive and diverse workplace by providing informative presentations on the meaning of significant observances such as Pride Month and Juneteenth. Since then, we added several ERGs—Interfaith, Women’s, Parents and Caregivers, and Asian American and Pacific Islander—bringing us to seven in total with more in development.
“Interwell’s ERGs are a clear sign of the company’s leadership and employees' desire to build a culture where we can all thrive,” shared Dan Rumeau, manager of information technology. “As a new member of our Parents and Caregivers ERG, and a parent to young twins, I am humbled and encouraged by the stories, challenges, and perseverance of my fellow team members who are on similar journeys. I look forward to continuing to be a part of this group!”
We’re proud of our growth and progress to date, and know our journey is just beginning.
