Employees’ pursuit of opportunities in different departments or roles provides an opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable insights. Studies have also shown that promoting talent mobility increases cross-functional collaboration, cooperation, and innovation.

Jessica Garza, senior care coordinator, and Fernando Trevino, senior workforce analyst, both started as medical provider network coordinators over six years ago and have held roles in multiple departments.

Jessica knew from a young age that she wanted to help others. Her mother was a nurse, her aunt worked in an emergency room, and her sister works with an orthopedic surgeon, so this passion for helping others is part of her DNA. Driven by her desire to work more directly with patients, and with the support of her leaders, Jessica was eventually able to transition to our care coordination team, where she rose in rank to her current position. Jessica is currently leveraging our tuition reimbursement program to pay off her student loans, so she can take the next step in her education journey—earn her licensed vocational nurse certification and become a social worker.

“I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else,” shared Jessica. “We’re focused on helping patients thrive, not just services rendered. We care and that’s hard to find.”

Fernando knew nothing about kidney disease when he joined, but quickly became a high performer over the next two years. To continue to explore, he took an opportunity to transition to another department focused on providing care coordination. Having demonstrated a strong work ethic and learning agility, Fernando was eventually encouraged to apply for a role as workforce lead in a third new department.

“I liked the company and wanted to grow within the organization,” shared Fernando. “I’m very happy with where I am today and thankful for the many opportunities Interwell Health has offered.” He is now our lead workforce analyst and leverages his experience from previous roles to excel and better manage his teams. He shared it is a blessing to work for and grow within the same company.

Jessica and Fernando both encourage others not to be afraid to take chances and pursue different opportunities. “Keep an eye on what roles are out there, identify if there are skill gaps or certifications you need, and go for it,” shared Jessica. “In hindsight, you’ll be glad you did.”
